Maria Luce Frezzotti
Maria-Luce Frezzotti is a Petrology professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca in Milan, Italy, and also serves as the Dean of the Doctoral School. She earned an M.S. from Siena University and a PhD in Petrology from Siena and the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Before joining the faculty at Milano-Bicocca University in 2012, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and as an associate professor at Siena University.
Maria-Luce's research primarily focuses on fluid phases in geological processes. She uses a variety of approaches, including petrology, thermodynamics, geochemistry, and spectroscopy, to investigate deep fluids' physical and chemical properties, diamond formation, metamorphic processes, mantle metasomatism, and magmatism. In 2019, she was awarded the medal of the Accademia delle Scienze, the National Academy of Science, in recognition of her scientific contributions.
Beyond her research, Maria-Luce is dedicated to serving the scientific community. She has been an editor for several prestigious journals, such as the European Journal of Mineralogy, Journal of Geochemical Exploration, Lithos, and Communications Earth and Environment. Additionally, she has led several initiatives to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in her field.
