INVEST Fellow programme training

Work with disabled persons

It is vital that all university staff have awareness of the difficulties that may be experienced by students with disabilities. We belive that non-academic staff must be given the knowledge and resources to support these students effectively. Our team will deliver a training in order to improve the disability awareness among staff in INVEST EU university alliance.  Inclusivity and accessibility are vital components in the approach to design and delivery of education at all levels.

Therefore, we will deliver information and guidance related to the usual limitations, which students with different disabilities may caused due to their disability. We take into account that there is no universal recipe, but we would like to share the experience of inclusive trainers so far on what might be the limitations and how to overcome them. Here we will address the main ways to address and approach person with disability related to the appropriate disability etiquette. Case studies will demonstrate different good practices for implementing better communication with students with disabilities.

Supported Employment has been successfully used for decades as a personalised model for supporting people with significant disabilities to secure and retain paid employment. The model uses a partnership strategy to enable people with disabilities to achieve sustainable long-term employment and businesses to employ valuable workers. Increasingly, supported employment techniques are being used to support other disadvantaged groups such as students with special needs, disabilities, refugees, immigrants etc. Here we will provide participants with useful resources to learn more about this process, which will support for the better linkage between education and employment integration.
