PHD POSITION FOR IOT - DIGITAL SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT UTH
PhD position for IoT - Digital Systems Department UTH
About the Program
The Digital Systems Department (DSD) based at University of Thessaly (UTH) School of Science, is seeking applications for a fully funded PhD program from exceptional Greek/EU/International students with an outstanding academic record, as well as a proven record in research training.
The Digital Systems Department of UTH has realized that industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is a rapidly developing area that addresses the proliferation of highly interconnected and ubiquitous embedded devices in environments such as manufacturing, healthcare, and environmental monitoring, improving service quality. This studentship will focus on advancing the understanding of how digitalization transforms industry and future supply chain, investigating the transformation of future supply chain into intelligent future systems by exploring the role of Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IoT). Furthermore, the mechanisms of data evaluation, the importance of ethics, the societal value on disruptive digital technologies and the human-machine co-existence model are all research topics to comprehend future industrial economies.
This PhD project will aim to investigate management theories and apply technological advances of dynamic interconnection of massive IIoT devices in a mobile networking environment creating a significant challenge for monitoring, performance, utilization, and security. More specifically it will focus on new aroused issues such as the shifting of the networking infrastructure from the host-centric approach to the dynamic end-to-end approach making the data to be the focal research point. Special case studies will include:
- New forms of intelligent decision support system methods for industry 4.0 concentrating on the utilization of IIoT for the monitoring and management of environmental studies in quantifying the Net Environmental Impact to support circular strategies.
- Data learning and cloud-based intelligence from IIoT sensory to monitor and analyze the performance of future inclusive autonomous resource management systems focusing on the security and efficient just-on-time information delivery (critical-type mobile/networked services such as the “Mobility as a Service” (MaaS)).
