La Universidad de Córdoba forma parte del Centro de Excelencia en Investigación y Desarrollo (CoE) que está construyendo la Alianza INVEST. INVEST es un proyecto internacional compuesto por siete universidades europeas con experiencias y especialidades múltiples (desde investigación a educación y transferencia), cuyo objetivo es potenciar el desarrollo regional sostenible.

Uno de sus mandatos es la puesta en marcha de una estructura de colaboración para la investigación, que funcione como una plataforma de lanzamiento para proyectos europeos. Esa estructura está dividida en diferentes Clusters que ayudan a fijar las líneas de investigación claves con potencialidad de éxito, dependiendo de los intereses de los diferentes socios: agricultura sostenible e “inteligente”,  energías renovables y de transición, gestión de recursos hídricos, educación y creación de capacidades, relación urbana-rural, bioeconomía circular y nuevos modelos de negocio y tecnologías inteligentes.
