SUA NITRA ORGANIZED THE INVEST FUTOUR 2026 SUMMER SCHOOL
Slovakia, Topoľčianky, and SUA in Nitra became the hosts of the INVEST summer school for one week. The school was entitled FUTOUR – Future of Sustainable Tourism and brought together students from six countries: Spain, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Finland, and Slovakia.
During the on-site phase from April 20–24, 2026, students worked in multidisciplinary and international teams to create a sustainable tourism development strategy for the municipality of Topoľčianky. The program included lectures and interactive workshops, focus groups and interviews with local stakeholders, empirical field research, group work, and final presentations with specific recommendations for the local municipality.
Overall program was intensive, centered around small town Topoľčianky as a real-world sustainable tourism destination. After paraller workshops forusing on regional development, tourism, and stakeholder cooperation students visited Topoľčianky Castle, enjoyed a guided tour, and had a discussion with the castle's management. The program continued with a walk through the village and a visit to Château Topoľčianky.
Participants spoke with representatives of the Local Action Group Tribečsko, the Mayor of Topoľčianky, the Park Topoľčianky civic association, and the local business Medovníkovo. A visit to the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky was also included. Moreover, participants visited also the European Bison Reserve.
Final day culminated in final presentations, where student teams presented their analyses, proposals, and recommendations based on the entire week of work, field research, and meetings with local stakeholders. Following the presentations, the program was concluded with a joint visit to the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and Nitra Castle, giving participants the opportunity to experience the university environment as well as the historical center of Nitra.
The FUTOUR Summer School thus provided not only professional knowledge but also an intensive experience in a real-world environment, emphasizing teamwork and bridging theory with practice. Thank you to everyone who was part of this week.
