INVEST STRENGTHENS INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH COLLABORATION THROUGH COST-FUNDED STSM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALY
The INVEST European University Alliance continues to strengthen its international research collaborations through the hosting of Dr. Ömer Kırmacı from Kırklareli University (Türkiye) at the University of Thessaly (UTH). The visit is taking place within the framework of a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) funded by the COST Action CA23112 – Critical Perspectives on Career and Career Guidance (COCAG).
Dr. Kırmacı is the Director of the Distance Education Implementation and Research Center (UZEM) at Kırklareli University. His research focuses on educational technologies, online and distance learning, instructional design, artificial intelligence in education, and digital learning environments.
Hosted by Dr. Omiros Iatrellis at the University of Thessaly, the collaboration aims to advance AI-supported academic and career guidance by further enhancing the learner model of the EDUC8EU academic recommendation system, an innovative digital service developed within the INVEST Alliance to support personalized academic advising.
Throughout the visit, Dr. Kırmacı will collaborate with the University of Thessaly team and conduct interviews with students, academic advisors, and career guidance experts. These discussions will help identify and validate the factors that influence students' academic interests, motivations, and career choices, contributing to the design of more intelligent, explainable, and personalized recommendation systems.
The outcomes of the STSM are expected to support the further development of the EDUC8EU platform while also leading to a joint scientific publication on AI-supported academic and career guidance. The collaboration is also expected to establish the foundations for future international research initiatives between the participating institutions.
By fostering cooperation between researchers from Greece and Türkiye, the INVEST Alliance continues to promote innovation, knowledge exchange, and the development of cutting-edge digital solutions that enhance student support and lifelong learning across Europe and beyond.
